  1. It'll make people healthy and positive.
  2. Developing an underground transportation system is urgent.
  3. The consequences of the past events.
  4. City’s green belt makes better environment.
  5. Industrial development is important.
  6. The major element of a city qualification.
  7. Well-educated population is essential.
Решение

Speaker A

If I could change one important thing about my hometown, it would be air pollution problem. I hope my hometown can become a beautiful city. As an old industrial city, my hometown has made a great deal of contribution for the country’s economic development. As a result, the natural environment of the city has been badly damaged. The forest has disappeared; the mountains have become bald, and the most awful thing is that the air quality becomes worse. People seldom see the blue sky most time of the year.

Speaker B

If I could change one thing about my hometown, I would like to build up some useful and advanced facilities. A modern library and an advanced broad band system may bring a lot of changes to people living in my hometown and keep them up with the latest information and technology. In my opinion, a modern library in my hometown can provide a good environment for the local people to study and upgrade themselves. Knowledge can give us guidance to overcome problems we meet in our daily life.

Speaker C

An integrated gym is an important building which should be planned in my hometown. We need to do exercises to keep our healthy life. Through doing various exercises, such as swimming, jogging, playing badminton or tennis, people can enhance their ability to resist the virus and enjoy the life happily. Furthermore, people who do exercises have positive attitude towards life even when facing difficulties. This is really what I hope to see. This is the reason why I want to set up an integrated gym in my hometown.

Speaker D

With the development of my hometown in the past few years, the population is expanding very fast. The city is experiencing not only a higher birthrate than ever, but also waves of immigration. The streets in the city are crowded or even jammed during the rush hours. If I could change one thing about my hometown, I would develop an advanced public traffic system. A subway running through and round the city can solve the problem. People could live further away from the downtown without worrying about spending too much time on the way.

Speaker E

I am from a small town. And I am sure that building a factory in there will bring a lot of advantages. First of all, the factory’s construction will surely improve infrastructure. To run smoothly, the factory will have to have a steady, reliable supply of water and electricity. Some old pipes will be changed, and some facilities will be renovated. The residents’ living standards get improved as a result of these widespread changes. Most important, a factory establishment will bring up a lot of employment opportunities for the community.

Speaker F

The thing I want to change most in my town is the mass transportation system. It is a very important part of the city. It influences people’s daily life, work and entertainment. An effective mass transportation system can safe people’s time so that people can do more work hence to increase the city’s efficiency. A city with bad transportation system can’t be qualified as a good city, regardless the fact, how rich the city is and how big the city is. It’s essential for a city to have a good mass transportation system to be qualified a good city.

  1. Transportation problems are essential.
  2. Essential needs are available in cities.
  3. Cities are great trading places.
  4. Experience of both living areas is important.
  5. Big cities are exciting.
  6. Social variety is attractive.
  7. You are sure to see special city beauty.
Решение

Speaker A

I grew up in a small town and then moved to a big city, so I have experienced the good and bad sides of both. I never thought that I would like living in a big city, but I was wrong. After ten years of living in one, I can’t imagine ever living in a small town again. I love the excitement of big cities. Small towns have a small pace. Large cities mean you have to adapt to a variety of situations, like finding a new route to work or trying a new restaurant. I enjoy that challenge very much.

Speaker B

Small towns and big cities both have some problems in terms of transportation. In a small town, you have a town car to ensure a comfortable living. You can’t get around without one because there isn’t any kind of public transportation. Big cities generally have heavy traffic and expensive parking, but there you have a choice of taking public transportation. It’s not free, but it’s often cheaper than driving when you consider gas and time. Especially, if you don’t have a car, you are better off in the city.

Speaker C

I like the excitement of big cities. Small towns have a slow pace. Large cities mean you have to adapt to a variety of situations, like finding a new route to work or trying a new restaurant. I enjoy the challenge very much. Another pan of the excitement of city living is the variety of cultural activities available. There is a wide assortment of theatre, music and dance performances available in big cities. These things are rare in small ones.

Speaker D

An important thing for me in a big city is the diversity of people. Our society is made up of people of different nations, races, religions, abilities and interests. However, you seldom find such a variety of people in a small town. I think that living in an area where everyone was just like me would quickly become boring. So, people who are so different doing so many things in their lives is really great in a big city. Sometimes, I just sit on a public bench and simply watch the variegated streams of citizens.

Speaker E

To begin with, the city is the symbol of human civilization and there are many facilities for living, recreation and health care. Therefore, living there is more convenient than living in the countryside. For example, we can find a plenty of malls around our neighborhood, where we can buy everyday necessities at a low price. Furthermore, people are more concerned about their health and safety than other things in their lives. In big cities, medical facilities and emergency services are more easily available than in the countryside.

Speaker F

Architecture is the urban landscape. If a person has an appreciation of architecture, a city can be visual excitement. A modern metropolis is a mountain range of height, light and solidness. And then there are the old buildings: the quaint, unspoiled side-street or shops and homes from a distant age. If a person lived all of his life in one large city, he would continue to discover its architectural secrets into his old age.

  1. Reading fiction could be a good replacement for being on social media.
  2. We don’t read less than we used to, we just read different things.
  3. People shouldn’t be judged if they don’t like to read.
  4. Reading is much more beneficial than watching movies.
  5. Good books help to develop imagination.
  6. Audiobooks are helpful for slow readers.
  7. Reading too much can contribute to health problems.
Решение

Speaker A

If you ask me, I barely have any time to read. Don’t get me wrong — I read plenty of books, but these days it’s for my studies only. For me, reading for pleasure is very important, but there are only so many hours a day! Moreover, my eyesight has already started getting worse, and I’ve been told by a doctor that my eyes needed immediate rest. Because of this, unfortunately, I choose to read only the most necessary information.

Speaker B

To tell you the truth, I don’t understand why so many people nowadays claim that nobody reads anymore. Yes, we probably read paper books less often, that’s fair criticism — but being online 24/7, that is 24 hours 7 days a week, everything you do is read! Social media posts, blogs, forums... If anything, I would agree that we actually consume much, much more of written texts. Of course one could say that it’s not the same thing as reading high-quality intellectual fiction, but it’s better than nothing, I guess.

Speaker C

Personally, I don’t read anymore — I listen. Even though I really love good books, I’ve always been a very slow reader, which is incredibly annoying. Audiobooks have turned out to be an amazing solution to this problem. It’s very convenient to listen to them on any gadget you have, the voices of actors are usually very pleasant — and, what’s more important, you can listen to a good book while doing something else! I really like having an audiobook in the background when I cook or do stuff around the house. I’ve managed to finish several new books since I’ve started doing that.

Speaker D

To be completely honest, reading is, like, my only hobby. Of course, people often argue that reading is boring, or proclaim that reading is unnecessary in the age of digital media, but I simply couldn’t disagree more. I believe that reading is indispensable when it comes to developing imagination. When you watch a movie, you don’t have to think too hard about the characters’ appearance or the setting — everything is presented to you ready-made! While you’re reading, though, the world-building is completely up to you. Even though you rely on the author’s descriptions, each person would still have a unique picture in their head. It’s amazing!

Speaker E

I guess people always react in a very strange way when I say that — but no, I don’t like reading. There are so many different kinds of media in the modern world that I don’t quite understand why everyone is so focused on reading. It’s so old-fashioned! I would always choose a good movie or TV series over a book, and I don’t think there should be anything wrong with that. After all, a lot of books have been adapted into great movies, so I can always watch them. I wish everyone just accepted the fact that reading isn’t the only way to become smarter.

Speaker F

I completely agree that most of us don’t read that much anymore. On the one hand, it’s understandable, as we all have very busy lives. On the other hand, though, I believe that there are so many useless activities which could have been replaced by reading a good book. For example, if we simply counted all the time that we spend during the week scrolling our social media feeds, it would probably be enough to read a novel by Tolstoy! How about the next time you want to check your social media, you grab a book and read a few pages?

  1. It’s up to us to make the use of technologies more ethical.
  2. Observing new technologies is exciting and inspirational.
  3. People are too reliant on technology.
  4. People should learn more about new technologies to stop being afraid of them.
  5. Critics and supporters of technological progress are both right to a certain extent.
  6. Technological progress can negatively affect employment.
  7. The way in which new technologies are developing causes pessimism.
Решение

Speaker A

Personally, I’m really unhappy with the way the new technologies are developing. More and more people are glued to their phones. Knowledge is devalued — why study if you can find any information online? Literacy is at an all-time low — just look at some comments on the Internet and try to find at least one without spelling mistakes. What concerns me the most, though, is how mean people are to each other on social media. No one knows how to maintain a healthy discussion anymore. I’m afraid that the more advanced our gadgets become, the worse the situation gets.

Speaker B

In my opinion, it’s completely normal to be both excited and worried about technological progress. For instance, one could be rightfully concerned about whether one day AI outsmarts us and conquers the world. Jokes aside — I don’t think that could actually happen, but I agree that powerful technologies can be very dangerous in the wrong hands. On the other hand, isn’t that amazing how many things we can do now that were impossible before? Personally, I’d rather focus on the positive.

Speaker C

The way I see it, new technologies themselves simply cannot be good or bad. It’s us who create them and give them meaning. After all, it’s real people who post offensive comments and fake news online! Bots and other kinds of AI are just learning from us — so if they create something unethical or disturbing, it’s actually just a mirror of our own behavior. As soon as people make a conscious decision to behave ethically online, there will be much fewer concerns about ‘unethical’ technologies.

Speaker D

If you ask me, I am a huge fan of progress. As a child, I loved reading novels by Jules Verne that described unbelievable devices and technologies — but most of them were actually invented later! It’s so exciting to see the human brain come up with the most incredible ideas. So many areas of life — from communication and sharing information to getting medical treatment or travelling around the world — have been vastly improved by technological achievements. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Speaker E

Don’t get me wrong — it might sound as if I’m some kind of opponent of progress, but I’m actually not. I’m simply questioning whether people have become too dependent on technology. Imagine a power outage in your district that leaves you without electricity for a few hours or so. It’s like your life completely stops! You can’t work, you can’t charge your gadgets, sometimes the Internet connection disappears as well. To be honest, it’s a bit scary how uncomfortable that feels, considering that for our ancestors it was a completely normal way to live.

Speaker F

To be honest, I’m a bit worried about the changes on the job market. For example, what if text-generating chatbots become so good that there is no need for copywriters anymore? What about translators? Nowadays, translating software can show excellent results, and it’s only getting better year by year. The same goes for digital artists and animators. Who is going to hire them if AI can create anything for free? Some might argue that people will still be necessary to supervise these clever bots, but I’m still not convinced.

  1. Being online too much can make you feel bad about your appearance.
  2. The Internet sometimes promotes unreliable information.
  3. The main benefit of being online is unlimited access to knowledge.
  4. Social media are harmful for our communicative skills.
  5. Cyberbullying is a problem that should be discussed more often.
  6. It’s hard to stay productive when you have too many apps open on your phone.
  7. Finding new friends online can be great for your mental health.
Решение

Speaker A

As far as I see it, the Internet’s benefits do outweigh the problems. I feel this way because with its help, we can stay in touch with people we might otherwise not be able to. The Internet also gives you unlimited knowledge. You can learn pretty much anything there, and, what is more, do it quickly and for free. This can be a very useful tool when trying to do something on your own.

Speaker B

I really don’t understand why most of my time online I just procrastinate instead of being productive and studying. I sometimes find myself getting sucked into my phone whether it’s watching funny videos or chatting with my friends. Every time I put my phone down, I find myself being on it two seconds later. Sometimes I feel like being online makes me more stressed. I feel like I’m not being as productive and it makes me feel tired and drained.

Speaker C

I believe that, although the Internet holds so much good, having access to so many things and people truly does have its negatives. As a 15-year-old girl, the Internet becomes problematic due to the unrealistic beauty standards that online life idealizes. The Internet makes it almost impossible to escape these self-comparisons which leads millions of teenagers to struggle to find confidence in their own skin.

Speaker D

I strongly believe that misinformation has become extremely dangerous to the young minds using social media. It’s so easy nowadays to just read something online and instantly believe it. Not many people want to take the time to look into it and research what really happened. Instead they just take someone’s story or post, even if they don’t know the author personally, and share it, spreading more false information and hurting more people.

Speaker E

If you ask me, I love social media! It amazes me that I can keep up with friends and interact with like-minded people around the world. Having online friends and forums I can go to if I need advice is awesome. Meeting people through these platforms has done wonders for my mental health, but sometimes social media can be too much to handle. With information constantly floating around, trends that die out as soon as they become popular, and unpleasant facts about your favorite Internet personalities, it’s hard to keep up and not get overwhelmed.

Speaker F

I agree that the social media is a great way for teenagers to stay connected with each other. However, the Internet also has caused kids to become a lot less creative and lose some basic social skills. Just like everything, there needs to be a balance between staying connected online and making those personal connections that teach you things the Internet simply can’t, such as looking people in the eye and communicating clearly.

  1. This way of travelling is the best for eco-conscious adventurers.
  2. This travel mode embodies a sense of nostalgia and a slower-paced approach to exploration.
  3. This way of travelling is perfect for those who seek a profound connection with the places they visit.
  4. It is a tranquil and unique way to discover destinations off the beaten path.
  5. It’s the fastest way to get anywhere quite quickly.
  6. This way of travelling is the combination of several others.
  7. This type of travelling is ideal for those who enjoy spontaneity and flexibility.
Решение

Speaker A

Beautiful views, great service, decent food and accessibility are a few words you can associate with flying, but there’s much more to it. I strongly believe that travelling by air is the fastest and most efficient way to reach distant destinations. It allows us to cover long distances in a short amount of time, maximizing our travel experience. So in my opinion, air travel offers convenience and accessibility, making it an ideal choice for those with limited time or who desire to explore far-flung corners of the world.

Speaker B

I think that everybody will agree that travelling by train offers a unique and immersive experience. It allows us to witness the changing landscapes, interact with fellow passengers, and enjoy the rhythmic motion of the train. Train travel often provides a more relaxed and scenic journey, offering the opportunity to soak in the beauty of the surroundings. It’s the constant motion, the meditative sound of wheels chugging on tracks that attract those who prefer travelling by train. You can just lean back with free Wi-Fi, and a snack cart rumbling up and down the aisles, and watch the scenes pass by, their changing monotony soothing you to sleep.

Speaker C

As far as I feel, travelling by car provides flexibility and freedom. It allows us to explore at our own pace, deviate from planned routes, and discover hidden gems along the way. It seems to me that road trips offer a sense of adventure, enabling us to connect with the local culture and take spontaneous detours. This way of travelling may imply gas stations stops and caffeine refills. I believe that travelling by car offers a personalized and customizable experience.

Speaker D

I guess you will agree that travelling by bicycle allows us to embrace a slower and more intimate way of experiencing the world. You don’t need any gas or costly maintenance. As for me, cycling offers a unique perspective, as it allows us to interact with the environment and connect with the local community on a deeper level. It promotes sustainability and physical well-being, while providing a sense of accomplishment. In general, cycling travel embodies a sustainable and immersive approach.

Speaker E

Travelling by boat opens up a world of exploration on the water. Cruises and sailing adventures offer the opportunity to visit remote islands, explore coastal regions, and witness breathtaking seascapes. It allows us to disconnect from the fast-paced world and immerse ourselves in the serenity of the sea. I think, travelling by boat typically takes much longer than driving, flying, or riding the rails. But there’s also something primeval about crossing from land to land like explorers before us, and, in my opinion, there’s no other mode of transportation that connects you so closely to the elements.

Speaker F

Travelling on foot is the most authentic and intimate way to explore a destination. What I mean is that walking allows us to fully immerse ourselves in the local culture, interact with the locals, and discover hidden gems that may be overlooked by other means of transportation. I hope you will agree that walking encourages mindfulness and a deeper connection with the surroundings. From my viewpoint, travelling on foot offers a slower, more intimate experience than any other way of travelling.

My earliest memory is of my third birthday party. It was a family celebration, I remember it precisely well. It was a birthday party surrounded by colorful balloons and a cake adorned with candles. I received many presents, and it was a memorable moment. I remember the excitement and the laughter of my family and friends, as we played games and sang songs. This memory holds a special place in my heart, representing the joy and love that filled my early years.

Speaker B

My earliest memory is of my first day of preschool, clutching my mother's hand as we entered the unfamiliar classroom. I was wearing a new school uniform which was new to me. I remember the mix of emotions – nervousness, excitement, and curiosity. The bright colours, toys, and friendly faces stand out in my mind. This memory represents the beginning of my educational journey and the sense of independence that came with it. It was a new sensation representing my new status.

Speaker C

My earliest memory is of a family trip to the beach. Then I was perhaps about two or two and a half years old. I remember that trip perfectly well, though. I recall the feel of the sand between my toes, the salty breeze on my face, and the sound of seagulls overhead. It was a day filled with laughter, building sandcastles, and splashing in the waves. I can recall swimming with my parents. This memory signifies the joy and freedom of childhood and the bond I shared with my family.

Speaker D

My earliest memory is of a thunderstorm that frightened me as a child. I think, I was four years old. I was frightened to death. I cannot remember why but I was alone in the room. What I remember quite well is that there were the flashes of lightning illuminating my room and the booming sound of thunder that made me seek comfort under the covers. To my mind, this memory represents my vulnerability and the need for reassurance from my parents.

Speaker E

My earliest memory is of a summer afternoon spent in my grandparents’ garden. It was the summer after my first year at school. I recall the vibrant colours of the flowers, the sweet fragrance in the air, and the gentle warmth of the sun on my skin. I would chase butterflies and pick ripe berries with my tiny fingers. I also remember eating them and their sweet sensation in my mouth. The nature was simple and simultaneously beautiful, the moments spent with my grandparents were inexplicably precious.

Speaker F

My earliest memory is of my parents reading bedtime stories to me. I don’t remember how old I was then but they read the stories to me till I was about twelve. I think, many people have similar moments to recall. I remember the comfort of their voices, the smell of the books, and the cozy feeling of being tucked in bed. I liked fairy-tales and the way my Mum and Dad read them to me. I think everybody will agree that such memories represent the importance of storytelling and the bond between parents and their children.

Speaker A

When people travel to new places, they often choose the local museums as a must-see place. Sometimes museums are even more attractive than the most famous place of interest. This phenomenon can be easily explained if the function of museums is taken into account. As we have known, museums can help us know the history, the customs and the most representative products of that place. Different places have different history. And the most convenient way to know it is to visit the local museum.

Speaker B

Last year when I travelled in some region and went to the oldest city there, I went to history museum to explore the course of its development. With the background knowledge provided by the museum, I found that it was easier for me to understand the city. So the museum can clear away the barriers between tourists and the city by making them familiar with its history. To a tourist, the most attractive part of a place is usually its customs, which can be demonstrated by the local museum.

Speaker C

Every place has its own representative products, which are usually handcrafts. Tourists can have the access to a wonderful show of these handicrafts in the local museum. For example, in my native town — the most famous pottery-making place in the region, tourists can be excited by the beautiful pottery products and the complicated making process exhibited in the pottery museum. It will be a pity for a tourist not to experience the wonderful show of the local products in the museum.

Speaker D

Museums are fun. Even if you are not interested in art or history, there is always something to get your attention. Many museums now have what they call “hands-on” exhibits. These were originally designed to keep children occupied while their parents were looking at exhibits. However, museums have found that adults enjoy hands-on opportunities just as much as children. These exhibits have activities like pushing a button to hear more about what you are looking at, creating your own work of art, or trying on clothes like those on the models in the museum.

Speaker E

People often enjoy visiting museums about unusual subjects. For instance, in my hometown there is a museum devoted to the potato. This museum has art made of potatoes. It also tells us all about the history of the potato, and sells potato mementos like key chains and potato dolls. People enjoy visiting this museum because it is different. It is not something they would find in their hometown and the museum’s curators enjoy talking about the Great Potato.

Speaker F

When you arrive in a place, ask which kinds of museums they have. To do this you can know what the people there like. For example, if there are a lot of art museums, the people must like art a lot. So you can enjoy an atmosphere of art there. If there is a history museum, it’s the best way to know the history of the area. Want to visit a nature museum? It’s a good idea. There must be introduction about the natural environment there. We can get information about why people there eat this kind of food, maybe it’s because of the weather.

My best way is to have a party, especially a family party. I don’t like a teenager party because it’s too messy, I like to take part in the family parties, especially when there’s a lot of peers, people of my age, but I prefer to go with my family, not just me alone, because, you know, I don’t know how to prepare my gifts, so they can give me some advice, and during the family party I prefer the dessert, and the food, I like to taste all kinds of food of different countries.

Speaker B

The best thing I want to talk about is last Sunday. I went to a family party. I love family parties — and, because the day before the party, I just finished my English exam, so I needed to relax, so I was really happy to enjoy and I’ve never been to the UK, so I went to the British people’s house and met them and brought them gifts from me and they were really happy, and we talked a lot about our different cultures and the customs like the weddings or something.

Speaker C

Definitely, I got very excited on Tuesday, when I opened my email account and I had won the lottery. I was thrilled, it took me a long time to actually remember my password and get into my account to find out just how much I had won. While I was doing this, in my mind, the figure went up from ten thousand to a million, than to 30 million pounds. In reality, it was two pounds seventy, but it was exciting, it put me in a good mood for the rest of the day.

Speaker D

On the Isle of Wight, well, the thing is we have lots of festivals every year, it seems that every weekend there’s another festival going on, so we’ve got lots of chances to go to music festivals, classic-car festivals or whatever, and there’s a lot of, there’s a big arts scene on the Isle of Wight, so if you’re into, I don’t know, anything where you can take a picnic out and listen to some music, you’ve got a lot of chances for this, and the island is also brilliant for its scenery, just walking around with lots of cycle tracks and footpaths.

Speaker E

Well, when I lived in Dubai, it was very different to the city it is right now, so at that time, I was trying to keep cool, which meant living in a swimming pool or going to the sea and swimming in the sea, but I think that’s where I got my idea of sitting around and eating and having a good time with friends and family, ‘cause it’s a very family-oriented environment, and family’s very important to a lot of people, so that would be one of the main activities.

Speaker F

Well, there’s a lot of activities, but in my family and in my city, because Shanghai is a crowded city, we usually go to a park, because there is no place for us to camp. I really love camping, and most of the office ladies, they all like to relax about. But we usually go to the park and maybe we do not know each other, but we meet in the park, so we can be together and talk about families of each other and, well, and kids can make friends, and something like that.
