Well, I like, I’ve always liked living near the sea, I like having the beach there, although it’s a bit disappointing in Portsmouth because there’s no surf. Surfing and water sports are necessary for me. Why not do what you enjoy while on holidays? It’s OK, surfing is OK for me. So, I’d like to go somewhere where there are some waves and maybe not hotter necessarily, but just more reliable climate, I just don't really like the rain.
Speaker B
It definitely should be a warm place with a warm climate, and with the sea. For example, I like Portsmouth, really, because I live not far from sea. It’s so great, as you are always at the seaside. I do not need long flying and driving to get to the place, the destination. And I have an opportunity to go to the beach every day after classes, or go jogging, which is also very lovely, so I think that an ideal place for me would be a place with a warm climate and the sea.
Speaker C
I think, about a year ago, there’s a couple of places I’ve been recently to, actually, I went to Cambodia with a friend of mine, which was really interesting just cause it is so different to England, you know, the food and culture, and there’s also, I mean, we went to several sort of places of historical interest, obviously there was the sort of Communist uprising, and we went to some places, really, sort of interesting and eye-opening in a sort of a historical way and there was also some, you know, some beautiful temples and stuff as well.
Speaker D
I think that it is Mexico. I visited it this April. I was really impressed by the Caribbean Sea, by the sun and beautiful beaches, sandy beaches with white sand, and of course, people. People impressed me very much, they were very open-minded and their level of English also was very good, so I had an opportunity to talk to people, to natives. I just went on holiday on my own, but, that way you’re kind of forced to interact with people there, and you, I sort of met a lot of interesting people through doing that. That was great!
Speaker E
You most of the time should visit the capital of a country, but bear in mind that London is not everything, you know, and there are lots of nice sort of pockets of rural land, and I mean, I really like Cornwall as a place to go to and spend some time, you’ve got some lovely sort of beach front there and if you like surfing and stuff like that, there’s sort of lots of outdoor activities you could do. Popular destinations are great but be an explorer and choose the places which are not in travel brochures.
Speaker F
If you are going to go to Russia in winter, I would like to advise you to take more warm clothes because in winter it can be really cold. For example, in area where I live, it’s not far from Moscow, it can be 20° below zero, but there is a lot of snow and you can enjoy playing snowballs and skiing, skating, and all kinds of these activities, and if you go in summer or autumn, I’d like to advise you to go to St Petersburg because it's one of my favourite cities, and it is very beautiful, has a lot of beautiful palaces, magnificent temples and churches, the Neva River and embankment will also impress you much.
Задача 2

- Too much time on your phone or in front of your computer is bad for posture.
- You should always wear knee protection when riding a bike.
- Cycling is a great way to stay in good physical shape.
- It’s enough to use your common sense if you want to stay healthy.
- People who can’t find time for physical exercise are probably just lazy.
- Many young people experience health problems nowadays.
- Healthy lifestyle trends are useless.
Решение
Oh, I’ve always been very attentive to my health. I believe it’s very important to stay healthy and energetic regardless of your age. Sadly, a lot of my classmates already have some chronic health issues — poor eyesight, bad posture, gastritis and many, many more. It’s awful! I myself have problems with my blood pressure, but I absolutely don’t want to sit around and do nothing. I do morning exercises every day, I jog two or three times a week, and my diet doesn’t include any junk food or sweet drinks. Some people believe that it’s boring to live like that, but I don’t agree — and frankly, don’t care.
Speaker B
I guess my lifestyle is alright, but there is always room for improvement. For example, I don’t have a very comfortable chair at home, and I need to sit in front of my computer a lot. Also, just like all of us, I’m looking at my phone pretty much all the time... My parents already say that my posture is getting worse, and my mom wants to buy me a special device for keeping my back straight! I really wouldn’t want to wear anything like that, so I’d rather start exercising...
Speaker C
Unfortunately, I can’t stay as active as I would like to. Last year, I fell off my bike and seriously injured my knee. Of course, it was my mistake not to wear any knee protection, and I’m still dealing with the consequences. My friends invite me to their tennis practice regularly, but I still can’t run or jump properly, so I just watch them from the stands. I am only allowed to do physical therapy now, and I know that it’s very helpful, but these exercises are just so boring!
Speaker D
To be completely honest, I don’t follow any healthy lifestyle trends. Why would I? These rules change every few years. At first, people promoted vitamins, and now it is said that you shouldn’t take vitamins unless you have a medical problem. Doctors claimed that you should drink 8 glasses of water per day, but now it turns out that tea, coffee, and soups also count. And don’t even get me started on diets and exercise styles — they go in and out of fashion every week. I don’t want to miss out on nice food or exhaust myself at the gym trying to catch up with a trend.
Speaker E
Personally, I come from a family of doctors, so I know everything about maintaining good health. However, no one in our house is crazy about following rules. Rather, we stay reasonable and always use common sense. For example, I would never eat three ice-creams in a row or the whole pizza in one sitting! I also wash my hands thoroughly and never go out if I’m sick. I wish more people followed this very simple advice.
Speaker F
In my opinion, it’s really easy to stay healthy in our day and age, and I’m really curious as to why so many people still don’t want to improve their lifestyles. For example, I don’t understand how one can still smoke despite all the information about the awful effects of smoking. The same goes for people who complain about the lack of time for exercising — there are so many places outside where you could do sports, jog, or play ball games. You can even exercise at home — you just need to go on the Internet! Are we really that lazy?

My best way is to have a party, especially a family party. I don’t like a teenager party because it’s too messy, I like to take part in the family parties, especially when there’s a lot of peers, people of my age, but I prefer to go with my family, not just me alone, because, you know, I don’t know how to prepare my gifts, so they can give me some advice, and during the family party I prefer the dessert, and the food, I like to taste all kinds of food of different countries.
Speaker B
The best thing I want to talk about is last Sunday. I went to a family party. I love family parties — and, because the day before the party, I just finished my English exam, so I needed to relax, so I was really happy to enjoy and I’ve never been to the UK, so I went to the British people’s house and met them and brought them gifts from me and they were really happy, and we talked a lot about our different cultures and the customs like the weddings or something.
Speaker C
Definitely, I got very excited on Tuesday, when I opened my email account and I had won the lottery. I was thrilled, it took me a long time to actually remember my password and get into my account to find out just how much I had won. While I was doing this, in my mind, the figure went up from ten thousand to a million, than to 30 million pounds. In reality, it was two pounds seventy, but it was exciting, it put me in a good mood for the rest of the day.
Speaker D
On the Isle of Wight, well, the thing is we have lots of festivals every year, it seems that every weekend there’s another festival going on, so we’ve got lots of chances to go to music festivals, classic-car festivals or whatever, and there’s a lot of, there’s a big arts scene on the Isle of Wight, so if you’re into, I don’t know, anything where you can take a picnic out and listen to some music, you’ve got a lot of chances for this, and the island is also brilliant for its scenery, just walking around with lots of cycle tracks and footpaths.
Speaker E
Well, when I lived in Dubai, it was very different to the city it is right now, so at that time, I was trying to keep cool, which meant living in a swimming pool or going to the sea and swimming in the sea, but I think that’s where I got my idea of sitting around and eating and having a good time with friends and family, ‘cause it’s a very family-oriented environment, and family’s very important to a lot of people, so that would be one of the main activities.
Speaker F
Well, there’s a lot of activities, but in my family and in my city, because Shanghai is a crowded city, we usually go to a park, because there is no place for us to camp. I really love camping, and most of the office ladies, they all like to relax about. But we usually go to the park and maybe we do not know each other, but we meet in the park, so we can be together and talk about families of each other and, well, and kids can make friends, and something like that.

Junk mail, I hate that, really, a lot of it, every day some companies sent me a lot of junk mail and I don’t like that. It's usually something I really don’t want or need, you know. But I think it depends on the kind of email, so some emails are good, for example, I want to apply to universities, and many universities send me an email to explain about their policy, their systems or something like that, and I think it's useful. Sometimes it’s useful.
Speaker B
Well, I don’t know about you, but what I tend to do is have two different email accounts, so I have a personal, private email account that I use for work or for my friends, and then I have the other email account, so when I’m shopping online, I use that one, so I know that when I check that, I’m gonna have about 400 spam emails in a week, and then my other email account, I’Il have about two messages.
Speaker C
I think some engineer, computer engineer advised all the customers try to change your passwords maybe after a month or two months, so you can protect your password as well, and the spam, it means, rubbish email, cannot enter your address as well, and the other thing, sometimes when we buy goods online, sometimes it bothers me when the quality of goods is not as good as I expect, so I try to find a way to change my goods as well, and it also takes me long time to change and we also have to search for some more information online, it’s a problem as well.
Speaker D
I don’t know. I think sometimes it is nice when you get some pop-up ads, I don’t agree with the fact that nowadays with technology, they can track everything you’re doing on the Internet, so they know what you’re interested in, but occasionally, I mean, recently I was looking to buy a new camera, and I was just on the Internet, and ‘pop!’, and I had a little pop-up ad that came, and it was advertising a camera, and, ‘Actually, that’s exactly what I’ve been looking for,’ so OK, you know, one for the advertising, it did work on me, but I think I’m really susceptible to advertising.
Speaker E
Oh, you know, when you have like the late-night ads on TV and they always, they’re advertising something like the latest kitchen gadget, I’ll sit there and think “I need one of these! How have I lived my life without one?” and of course, you know, you buy it, you use it once, it doesn’t work, you put it in a cupboard, and it sits there, you know, for years, so. Would you say that advertising really works on you?
Speaker F
I think this depends on the number or the way they approach you, it makes you comfortable or not, and for example, I have an example, that, sometimes I watch a very favourite movies on TVs, that’s a film on TV or maybe a football match, where I, we say, that’s a very wonderful football match on the TV, so, sometimes advertisements break the match or break the news, the film as well, so I have to pause, to wait, and I feel very tired in that way, so I don’t like it. So you just want to focus on your programme, you don’t want to be interrupted by the ads.

I grew up in a small town and then moved to a big city, so I have experienced the good and bad sides of both. I never thought that I would like living in a big city, but I was wrong. After ten years of living in one, I can’t imagine ever living in a small town again. I love the excitement of big cities. Small towns have a small pace. Large cities mean you have to adapt to a variety of situations, like finding a new route to work or trying a new restaurant. I enjoy that challenge very much.
Speaker B
Small towns and big cities both have some problems in terms of transportation. In a small town, you have a town car to ensure a comfortable living. You can’t get around without one because there isn’t any kind of public transportation. Big cities generally have heavy traffic and expensive parking, but there you have a choice of taking public transportation. It’s not free, but it’s often cheaper than driving when you consider gas and time. Especially, if you don’t have a car, you are better off in the city.
Speaker C
I like the excitement of big cities. Small towns have a slow pace. Large cities mean you have to adapt to a variety of situations, like finding a new route to work or trying a new restaurant. I enjoy the challenge very much. Another pan of the excitement of city living is the variety of cultural activities available. There is a wide assortment of theatre, music and dance performances available in big cities. These things are rare in small ones.
Speaker D
An important thing for me in a big city is the diversity of people. Our society is made up of people of different nations, races, religions, abilities and interests. However, you seldom find such a variety of people in a small town. I think that living in an area where everyone was just like me would quickly become boring. So, people who are so different doing so many things in their lives is really great in a big city. Sometimes, I just sit on a public bench and simply watch the variegated streams of citizens.
Speaker E
To begin with, the city is the symbol of human civilization and there are many facilities for living, recreation and health care. Therefore, living there is more convenient than living in the countryside. For example, we can find a plenty of malls around our neighborhood, where we can buy everyday necessities at a low price. Furthermore, people are more concerned about their health and safety than other things in their lives. In big cities, medical facilities and emergency services are more easily available than in the countryside.
Speaker F
Architecture is the urban landscape. If a person has an appreciation of architecture, a city can be visual excitement. A modern metropolis is a mountain range of height, light and solidness. And then there are the old buildings: the quaint, unspoiled side-street or shops and homes from a distant age. If a person lived all of his life in one large city, he would continue to discover its architectural secrets into his old age.

Решение
В предложении "I like Josh, but I think he tends ________ (talk) too much."

It was silent."

- Crafts museums are representatives of local traditions.
- Tourists have a deeper understanding of the life of local people.
- Museums which attract adults.
- The museum which has an unusual theme.
- Museums reveal local history.
- The variety of museums is helpful.
- The museum which helps you to understand science.
Решение
When people travel to new places, they often choose the local museums as a must-see place. Sometimes museums are even more attractive than the most famous place of interest. This phenomenon can be easily explained if the function of museums is taken into account. As we have known, museums can help us know the history, the customs and the most representative products of that place. Different places have different history. And the most convenient way to know it is to visit the local museum.
Speaker B
Last year when I travelled in some region and went to the oldest city there, I went to history museum to explore the course of its development. With the background knowledge provided by the museum, I found that it was easier for me to understand the city. So the museum can clear away the barriers between tourists and the city by making them familiar with its history. To a tourist, the most attractive part of a place is usually its customs, which can be demonstrated by the local museum.
Speaker C
Every place has its own representative products, which are usually handcrafts. Tourists can have the access to a wonderful show of these handicrafts in the local museum. For example, in my native town — the most famous pottery-making place in the region, tourists can be excited by the beautiful pottery products and the complicated making process exhibited in the pottery museum. It will be a pity for a tourist not to experience the wonderful show of the local products in the museum.
Speaker D
Museums are fun. Even if you are not interested in art or history, there is always something to get your attention. Many museums now have what they call “hands-on” exhibits. These were originally designed to keep children occupied while their parents were looking at exhibits. However, museums have found that adults enjoy hands-on opportunities just as much as children. These exhibits have activities like pushing a button to hear more about what you are looking at, creating your own work of art, or trying on clothes like those on the models in the museum.
Speaker E
People often enjoy visiting museums about unusual subjects. For instance, in my hometown there is a museum devoted to the potato. This museum has art made of potatoes. It also tells us all about the history of the potato, and sells potato mementos like key chains and potato dolls. People enjoy visiting this museum because it is different. It is not something they would find in their hometown and the museum’s curators enjoy talking about the Great Potato.
Speaker F
When you arrive in a place, ask which kinds of museums they have. To do this you can know what the people there like. For example, if there are a lot of art museums, the people must like art a lot. So you can enjoy an atmosphere of art there. If there is a history museum, it’s the best way to know the history of the area. Want to visit a nature museum? It’s a good idea. There must be introduction about the natural environment there. We can get information about why people there eat this kind of food, maybe it’s because of the weather.

To be honest, I haven’t travelled much yet. We went to a maths competition in Kazan last year, and it was the first time I ever left my region! I loved Kazan, it is such a unique combination of historical and modern architecture. I wish I could visit more places in the future. This autumn we are hoping to go to a competition in India! I’m very excited about this trip, I hope everything works out fine with the weather and everything. It’s great when studying well gives you the opportunity to see the world.
Speaker B
I have visited three countries already, and of course I’d like to visit more. My parents are avid travellers — they have been all over the world! They like hiking and cycling, and they were actually able to cross a lot of countries on foot or on their bikes. When I was growing up, I always wanted to join them, but they believed that I was too young for such exhausting trips. Of course, it was very disappointing, but when I was actually allowed to join them on a trip to Mongolia, I realized how hard it was indeed! Still, it was an unbelievable experience.
Speaker C
You know, I actually really like my own region. Here we have everything: the mountains, the forests, and the sea. My friends think that I’m missing out by not venturing out more, and I always argue with them about it. I know our area like the back of my hand, and I love showing visitors around. Some people suggested that I could be a good tour guide, and I’m seriously considering studying touristic business at the university as my major.
Speaker D
I travel pretty often, but there is one serious problem — I’m really afraid of flying. I would really like to visit some faraway places — the thing is, it would take a very long time by train from where I live. It’s very disappointing, but, unfortunately, I can’t manage my fear of flying well enough to overcome it completely. As a result, I’m pretty limited in my choices of travelling destinations. Hopefully, I’ll beat my phobia one day — or scientists will invent teleportation!

I’m not a huge fan of travelling, and here is why — I can only go places in summer, and travelling during the summer is a complete nightmare. Going by bus is incredibly hot and uncomfortable, trains and planes are packed with other tourists who all want to visit the same places... If I spend too much time in a hot and crowded environment, I might get sick, and a couple of my vacations were ruined like that. So I’d rather save up money, stay at home and simply walk around the town.

We travel quite often with my friends. I really love that we are such a tight- knit crew. One person is always responsible for buying tickets, another — for booking the hotel, and so on. Personally, I am in charge of our schedule — I plan everything related to sightseeing, exhibitions, tours and everything like that. I’m a big fan of this role, as I like doing research and considering options. Our trips together always work like a clock — no surprises or disappointments!
